So, like I do, I had to fact check this claim. Turns out it’s not only right, but it’s understating things: the corporate tax rate in 2000 was 15%.

I think this makes things pretty clear though. While the post-Klein PCs may have not done a great job managing finances, Alberta’s deficit-or-surplus state probably has more to do with oil prices than with tax levels.
So, the NDP’s 2% corporate tax hike isn’t going to be devastating. If we’re devastated in 4 years, it’ll almost certainly because of energy prices, not government policy.
